Wilmslow Wolves are getting ready for the new season by using the off-season to appoint a new coaching set-up and spruce up the rugby club for everyone to enjoy.
Rick Jones, once of this parish has re-joined the Wolves after a 'sabbatical' with his home club, Macclesfield. Rick who needs little introduction was a combative player and a forthright and committed coach; his efforts in galvanising the 1st team to promotion in 2018/19 was a highlight for Wilmslow of the last decade.
Rick is joined by Burhan Turgut who has been coaching at Kings School, Macclesfield for the last year. BT is steeped in rugby know-how and experience having had spells with Doncaster Knights, the Championship club as the Head Performance Analyst and as Assistant Academy coach. Before that BT was at Glasgow Warriors and the University of St. Andrews as a Performance Analyst. BT's command of how rugby can be and should be played is second to none and he is eyeing a fruitful future for the Wolves on the pitch.
Rick Jones said, 'I am delighted to be in familiar surroundings and to have Burhan with me allows us to focus upon every player's needs and to concentrate on getting us all match-day ready. Whilst I am aiming to be in the top half of any league we compete in, we should really be focussing upon returning from Covid in a positive sense and making sure everyone at Wilmslow Wolves enjoys their rugby from supporters to players alike'.
Commenting on this, 1st Team Manager, Mike Blackett said, 'I am delighted to welcome back Jonah and am looking forward to how Burhan can shape our back play. As ever, this move is never just for the first team, and I'd like to welcome all senior players down every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm to enjoy their rugby and learn a few new skills.'
Key dates for every player's diary:
• 30th June from 7 pm - Meet the coaches evening for ALL senior players.
• 5th July from 7 pm - Pre-season training starts (thereafter every Tuesday and Thursday)
• 6th August - Pre-season game to be arranged.
• 13th August - Pre-season game to be arranged.
• 20th August - Pre-season game away at Litchfield.
• 27th August - 1st round of the Cheshire Cup.
